kaffyr: The Twelfth Doctor as imagined. (Dashing Twelve)

A Good Day. A Very Good Day.

There was sunshine, and a little grocery shopping at our local fruit market, then some very nice peanut-butter marinated chicken (don't gag, it's actually a lovely way to marinate chicken thighs, with soy sauce and garlic and brown sugar, and this time I had some miso ginger broth, so I substituted that for the water I was supposed to use, and it was lovely) to go over rice. And there were brussel sprouts sauteed in too much yummy butter and olive and sesame oil, and balsamic vinegar and green onions. And there were double-fudge brownies with ice cream for dessert.

There was time with my Best Beloved, napping with my head on his chest in the afternoon. And that would have made it better than anything, even if I'd had to eat stale cheese sandwiches instead of everything I talked about, and even if I hadn't watched some Doctor Who, too.

But it was good that I did watch the Doctor as he journeyed Into The Dalek. BB isn't fond of that type of episode (although he did consider it well done of its type), but I am, and I thought it was top-notch. It was unsparing and it made me uncomfortable, and it made me not like the Doctor, and I think that's not only what it set out to do, but what it should have set out to do. And I think it did it very, very well. It strengthened Clara, it introduced Danny Pink, who I think will be a very interesting character, and it solidified some of my own Theories Which Are My Own about who Missy is. For reasons.

I liked Deep Breath, and didn't see many of the supposed shortcomings others saw in it. It did have its faults, but it was a solid beginning to Capaldi's run, but I think I loved into The Dalek.

I want to explore both the episodes more; I hope I can summon the spoons to do so tomorrow.

Twelve is definitely growing on me - there were so many moments in this episode that gave me the shivers. (And in a Dalek episode, too. Not usually my thing at all.)

Twelve is rapidly cementing himself as my new favorite thing ever, and Clara continues to shine as my new old favorite thing ever. But sadly this episode wasn't doing it for me. I will look forward to your thoughts, if you can manage them. You have a certain talent for putting things into words I can understand : )

Sure—whenever you make a post of them, I'll keep it aside to read and comment on after I've watched ^_^ (I had a lot of problems with Deep Breath… But there was Capaldi greatness and interesting character insight moments, so there's that.)

Aw, I'm glad you had a nice day. ♥ (I enjoyed the episode a lot, too - but then, I usually do!)

Ohh, that sounds delicious!! And a nap was just the ticket!!

I rather loved the eppie myself...and though I was pissed at him, I had to give it to the Doctor: he DID try. He was disappointed after being so hopeful that it was WORKING...but he tried. Rather love those types of eppies myself.

And I swear she is nutty like Iris. Who also had a Mary Poppins streak. But then, so did Beatrice. Only she wasn't absolutely obsessed with the Doctor and his life and how she 'guided it'. I'm looking forward to being proven wrong, lol!!

by which I mean, the Doctor did and said things that he didn't need to, out of spite, or fear, or arrogance, and made judgements that were simply incorrect and led to bad things.
And - almost more importantly - he was called on it! (I really need an icon of angry!Clara.)

I just loved that aspect. Trying and failing. He is only a man. We so often forget that, because he's meant to be the hero, but he has his pain, his history with the Daleks, and he tried to push through but it hurt him again. And he accepted his defeat with such grace...
