LOL, I'm so sorry about my terrible recs! But also, yay, ep 3! Dodgy CSO and a very familiar face, you must feel right at home now.

I hope you're enjoying my weirdest of 1970s faves & I'm sorry about the confusion the other day. <3 <3 <3

by the time I went to bed at 12:30 a.m. this morning, I'd gotten well into Episode 8, the one with "John" Cabot, and I simply had to get some sleep.

Oh, wow, I'm impressed! Yay!! (I mean, that you liked it, not that you lacked sleep.) \o/ I am always worried as well as excited when people (not that there have been many yet) watch SotT because it's such an oddity even for old telly - but that's probably what I like, that it is willing to be experimental with its installments. I'm glad you're enjoying it too!

I love how the series started slipping into something perilously like murderous political slapstick by Episode 7

That episode is probably the most random of all! I've grown kind of fond of it, though. Everyone seems to be only just getting through it without cracking up.

There are some good performances, yes. With theatrical things like that you need it. Obv I fell for Mr Maxwell for his performance across the whole thing as Henry, but of the guest performances you've yet to get to Christopher Neame in Ep12 (who is so good as the adult Warwick that I sometimes can't rewatch that one, as it gets unbearable) but John Franklyn-Robbins as William Stanley does an outstanding job in Ep6, especially since Stanley isn't even really that likeable. And of course Peter Jeffrey playing against type as the Heretic in Ep5, but I always have a soft spot for him.

Btw, are you watching on YouTUbe? Because eps 9-11 are blocked, BUT as it so happens I uploaded them for another flister before Christmas and the Sendspace links should still be working. (They're small avi zipped files and I couldn't get it not to have the Dutch subtitles, but it is better than missing out on some good stuff - 9 and 11 are favourites of mine. Given our time zone differences, I'll link them here just in case you don't and are left hanging while I snooze, or try to, given that it's New Year's Eve.)

9. "Do the Sheep Sin?" https://www.sendspace.com/file/vy2ktr
10. "The Man Who Never Was": https://www.sendspace.com/file/h925n3
11. "The Strange Shapes of Reality": https://www.sendspace.com/file/q4o6si

Also, I assume by CSO, you're talking about chromakey, and not someone's Chief Security Officer, although poor Henry did seem to have a problem with upper management.

LOL! And, yes, that's what I meant. The BBC called it Colour Separation Overlay back then, maybe even still does, so you now have to hand in your Classic Who Fan Badge for not knowing the time-honoured phrase "Dodgy CSO" off the bat. You'll be disclaiming bubblewrap monsters next. ;-p

As for confusion, you know, I can't even recall what I was confused about, which is a little unnerving, frankly.

*hugs* It's been a time and a half of it lately! I thought you'd watched SotT and asked you to have a look at a fic for me, and you were understandably baffled, because you hadn't watched SotT. (I am even more confused because I had a conversation with someone about the acting over the serial that I now don't know who it could have been because I had been so sure it was you, and it clearly wasn't!)

Oh my gosh, thank you for those links! I am indeed watching on You Tube, and I would have missed these.

My pleasure! Ep9 is one of my favourites, and I like the experimental nature of 11 a lot, too.

(Btw, when it was on YT, I screencapped one of the Ep9 conversations for my own amusement here, as they were pretty funny. Turns out that was just as well, due to the blocking that happened after.)

I thought the episode with the heretic was one of the best so far; it was sophisticated both in the script and in how the episode was structured.

*nods* It's probably my favourite, although I do also think 6, 9 and 13 are pretty strong, too, in different ways. (I've seen some of the director Moira Armstrong's other stuff and she always seems to be good.)

I do love Maxwell's Henry ... so careful, so mannered, with that thin, but oddly resonant voice.

:-D He was nearly a singer instead, and started out in musicals and singing Shakespearean songs.

(Oh, also, btw, I finally managed to find an interview with him this year, and it was done during SotT and is rather lovely, I think, if you want to see it.)

Do I have to hand in my Classic Who Fan Badge? Can I plead Canadian ignorance?

Hmm, maybe if you just go around muttering things like "wheezing and groaning sound" and "yellow Edwardian roadster" and "a dandy and a clown" under your breath for a bit, and finish up by building your own bubblewrap and styrofoam monster, you can get away with it? ;-)

btw, if you want to download the files, you need to do it quickly as they will expire in a week if no one downloads them. (sendspace doesn't store things for long)

Oh, how weird! It worked last time & the person got them all, but maybe that was because there were a couple of days in between each one, with me uploading them as they went? Still, try again and see what happens, maybe?

Download Strange shapes.zip from SendSpace

(Try that first as no one's downloaded that, so it will vanish sooner than 10!)

Download man who never.zip from SendSpace

I can always try reuploading them again, though, it's just I have to re-rip the whole things again first, because I don't keep them on my PC.
